Former finance minister Arun Jaitley was cremated with full state honours on Sunday, 25 August in Delhi's Nigambodh Ghat.

An ensuing viral message states that all offices, schools and other institutions will remain closed on Monday, 26 August as per a government announcement.

The message said, "The Govt. of India announces all offices, schools, and other institutions shall remain closed on 26/08/19, as mark of respect for our dear departed Shri. Arjun Jaitley (Hon. Member of Parliament & former Finance Minister)"

The Quint received multiple queries asking to verify the same.

The message was circulated on social media platforms Twitter and Facebook as well.

The 66-year-old leader, who passed away at AIIMS in Delhi on Saturday, had been hospitalised since 9 August.

According to the bulletin released by AIIMS, Jaitley passed away at 12:07 pm on Saturday.

WHAT IS THE TRUTH?

The message in circulation is false and no such notification has been issued by the Government of India.

WHAT WE FOUND

There is no circular or notification issued on government websites which announces the shut down of schools, offices or other institutions on Monday.

No incidents of school or office shut down were reported either.

Arun Jaitley’s name has been misspelt as “Arjun Jaitley” in the post, further calling into question its credibility.
