A video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi guiding a young child to a podium and purportedly encouraging her say “Rahul Gandhi pappu hai” is being circulated on Facebook.
The posts claim that the prime minister has "crossed all boundaries” by making the child say the phrase.
WHAT DOES THE VIDEO SHOW?
The video purportedly shows PM Modi taking the child to the podium, adjusting the mic and saying, “Bol beta.”
The child then says, “Rahul Gandhi pappu hai.”
This video has been shared multiple times with the same context. Here are a few examples.
THE VIDEO IS DOCTORED!
The viral video is a doctored version of the original, which actually shows the child at PM Modi’s Navsari rally in September 2016. The Prime Minister had visited Gujarat in 2016 to celebrate his 66th birthday.
The child, Gauri Shardul, was a Class 1 student at the time.
In a video of the event tweeted by Modi two years ago, the prime minister escorts the child to the podium, props her up to the mic and encourages her to recite Ramayana, saying: “Bolo beta, bolo.”
The girl tells the crowd, "I am Gauri, the differently-abled daughter of Puja and Yogi Raj Shardul. I study in Class 1." Then she simply recites the Indian epic to a cheering crowd.
