TRUE OR FALSE?

The claim with which the video is being shared is false. The video shows an allegedly drunk lawyer beating two traffic policemen in Karnataka’s Davangere after they had stopped him on suspicion of being drunk. The video dates back to 2018.

WHAT WE FOUND OUT

On conducting a Yandex reverse image search of one of the frames, we found a YouTube video uploaded by News Tak on 10 October 2018.

The caption along with the YouTube video reads: ‘Drunk man arrested for thrashing cops in Karnataka's Davangere.’

On listening to the video carefully, we heard that the people in the video were talking in Kannada.

Further, we searched for news reports on Google using the key words ‘arrested two policemen in Karnataka's Davangere’ and found a NDTV article dated 10 October 2018 with the headline ‘Karnataka Lawyer, Allegedly Drunk, Assaults Traffic Cops.’

WHAT HAD ACTUALLY HAPPENED?

According to the NDTV report, a lawyer by the name of Rudrappa was allegedly drunk when he beat two traffic policemen. He was on his motorcycle in Karnataka’s Davangere, when the policemen had stopped him as they suspected him to be drunk.

After being stopped, Rudrappa started throwing “terracotta objects” which were lying along the side of the road on the two traffic cops which injured one of the cops. The incident was recorded on the mobile phones of the passersby. The lawyer was reportedly arrested.
