The incessant rains and the resultant flooding in Mumbai has once again wreaked havoc in the city, leading to loss of lives and property.
Now, a video has come surfaced claiming to show a ‘flooded Mumbai airport’. As it turns out, the video is an old and unrelated one.
CLAIM
A tweet by a handle @mwarsama put out a video showing a water-logged airport with the caption saying, “Mumbai Airport today August 3”.
A number of individual Twitter users also tweeted the same video.
TRUE OR FALSE
The video is an old one and does not show the Mumbai airport either. The tweet carries false information.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
The Quint used InVid Chrome Plugin to fragment the video into separate frames and then conducted a reverse image search on the same.
Upon doing so, it was found out that the video originally is of the Mexico City International airport. Moreover, the video is at least two years old.
The Quint further found out that the same video has been circulated last year too, claiming that to be of Mumbai airport.
MUMBAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ISSUES CLARIFICATION
“The video which is making the rounds of social media showcasing Mumbai International Airport being flooded is actually a wrong video. The video is not of Mumbai Airport but belongs to another international airport.
While keeping a close tab on the weather, the Mumbai airport is proactively activating its contingency plan to provide a hassle-free experience to its passengers. Furthermore, food, water, and transportation are arranged for the passengers basis the conditions outside. The operations at the Mumbai airport are normal and we sincerely advise passengers to not believe any online video without checking the facts.”
