TRUE OR FALSE

The Quint could confirm that the image is being shared with completely misleading claim. The woman shown in the image is not a current JNU student, but CPI leader and activist Annie Raja.

In fact, the image itself is not from JNU but from the protests outside the Supreme Court organised in May 2019 against the procedure adopted to deal with a sexual harassment charge against former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.

The matter was widely reported in mainstream media.

The Quint also got in touch with Annie Raja who confirmed that this photo was taken during the protests against the handling of CJI sexual harassment case.

On being asked about her image being shared with a misleading claim, the activist and leader quipped, “It’s bizzare but also feels nice because I never had the opportunity to go to JNU.”
