WHAT WE FOUND OUT

A keyword search of “Farooq Abdullah Bharat Mata ki jai,” led us to a YouTube video posted by News24 on 20 August, 2018. The video is from the all-party prayer meet held in Delhi in which Abdullah pays his tribute to Vajpayee and ends his speech with “Bharat Mata ki jai”

In fact, Bharat Tak, the news channel whose logo can be seen on the viral video, also shared it last year, on their YouTube channel with the description, “ दिल्ली के इंदिरा गांधी इनडोर स्टेडियम में पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी के लिए सर्वपार्टी प्रार्थना सभा रखी गई थी। उसमें जब फारुक अब्दुल्ला की बारी आई तो उन्होंने अटल जी के साथ बिताए कई किस्से सुनाए। लेकिन आखिर में उन्होंने कई बार भारत माता की जय और जय हिंद के नारे लगाए और लोगों से लगवाए भी।”

(Translation: “At the Indira Gandhi indoor Stadium in Delhi, the all-party Prayer Sabha was held for former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. When Farooq Abdullah’s turn came, he told many stories with Atal ji. In the end, he shouted slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Jai Hind, and also made people repeat after him.”)

The Indian Express reported that as a result of Abdullah’s slogans, the National Conference Chief was heckled during Eid prayers at the Hazratbal mosque in Srinagar on 22 August, 2018. Several youths disrupted the congregation by shouting slogans of “Farooq Abdullah go back” and “hum kya chahte, azaadi” at the mosque.
