The Quint received this viral photo-message on WhatsApp from multiple people. The message is also being circulated widely on Twitter and Facebook.

WHAT'S THE REALITY?

This viral message is not true. On conducting a reverse image search, The Quint found that the photograph attached with the message is actually of Bhojpuri actor Irfan Khan and an accomplice, Sanjay Yadav, from July 2013, when they were arrested in connection with a fraud case.

According to an India TV report from 18 July 2013, the two men were arrested on charges of stealing credit cards, cheque books and bill books, and then purchasing valuables.

Gold ornaments worth Rs 2.5 lakh, 30 stolen credit cards and 15 cheque books were seized from the duo, an ABP News report about the same incident also said.

The ABP News video report also showed the duo being arrested, which proved that the viral photo-message has been taken from the scene of their arrest.

This is clearly a photo from a different incident which is being manipulated to spread this viral fake narrative.
