CLAIM
Several posts on Facebook claim that the Election Commission has announced the dates of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
According to these, the code of conduct will come into force on 20 September, the last day to fill up the forms is 27 September, voting will begin on 15 October and the counting will begin on 19 October 2019.
One post claims that dates for both the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections have been announced.
THE TRUTH
These posts, dated 11 September and 7 August, are peddling incorrect information because as of 17 September, the Election Commission has not announced the dates or either the Maharashtra or Haryana Assembly elections.
WHAT WE FOUND
The Quint looked at the Election Commission’s official website on which the election dates are invariably announced and couldn’t find any announcements or notices stating the dates for the 2019 Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections.
Furthermore, no reputable news organisation has reported this.
However, we did confirm that the dates mentioned in the posts correspond to those of the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections of 2014, as mentioned in an EC press release.
