CLAIM

A video, shared by several users on Twitter, claims that slogans of 'Kejriwal Jeetega' (Translated: Kejriwal will win) were raised at the 2019 Cricket World Cup match between India and Pakistan in Manchester on 16 June, Sunday.

The 28-second clip, which shows a crowd of people purportedly raising chants in support of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has been shared as:

दिल्ली के मुख्यमंत्री @ArvindKejriwal जी के प्रति दीवानगी ऐसी की आज भारत और पाकिस्तान के विश्व कप मैच में लगे नारे,

*जीतेगा भाई जीतेगा केजरीवाल जीतेगा ...*

(Translated: There so much love for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that slogans of “jeetega bhai jeetega Kejriwal jeetega” were raised at the India-Pakistan world cup match today.)

The video has also been shared by Sanjeev Jha, AAP MLA from Delhi's Burari constituency.

TRUE OR FALSE?

The video is not from the recently concluded match, but from a warm-up game played ahead of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

WHAT WE FOUND OUT

Upon a close look at the top left corner of the last frame of the video, one can clearly make out the words "ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP 2015" written on the hoarding in the stands.

The video is not from England’s Old Trafford stadium, but was shot in 2015 at Australia’s Adelaide Oval ground.

The 2015 World Cup was played in Australia and New Zealand, and the stadium shown in the video is the Adelaide Oval ground in Australia.

To confirm this, we compared footage of the crowd at the Adelaide Oval ground from a subsequent match with the viral video to ascertain the location – using markers like the location of the scoreboard in reference to the stands at the ground.

In both the videos, the scoreboard is placed next to a screen, and the arrangement of the stands is the same as well.

The video is not from England’s Old Trafford stadium, but was shot in 2015 at Australia’s Adelaide Oval ground.

We also searched Twitter for the keywords 'Kejriwal+chants+match', and came across some tweets from 2015 which claimed that chants of "Kejriwal jeet gaya" were indeed raised at the Adelaide Oval ground during the India-Afghanistan warm-up match.

Incidentally, the practice match between India and Afghanistan was held on 10 February 2015, when the results for the Delhi Assembly elections were announced, where Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party won with a thumping majority, bagging 67 seats.

However, as is clear in the viral video, the chants were limited to a small section of the crowd and was most likely a rehearsed stunt organised for the purpose of recording the video.
