CLAIM
With the Lok Sabha elections set to the fourth phase of polling on 29 April, many media houses have claimed that several Bollywood stars will not be able to cast their vote, due to various reasons.
The list includes Deepika Padukone, with many reports claiming that since the actor was born in Denmark’s Copenhagen and holds a Danish passport, she won’t be able to vote in the upcoming elections.

TRUE OR FALSE?
These reports are not true and have been rubbished by Padukone herself in the past.
At a press briefing ahead of the IIFA awards in 2014, she clarified rumours about her passport, affirming that she did, in fact, hold an Indian passport.
“You’re wrong, I hold an Indian passport. Where do you all get this from anyway?” she was seen asking the journalist who questioned her about her passport. She then called herself a “proud Indian citizen”, who very much owns an Indian passport.
She also stated that she would be voting in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, before she left for the IIFA award ceremony. “I will vote in the elections, and then leave for the IIFA ceremony,” she said.
She was also photographed after voting in the 2014 Maharashtra state assembly elections, which implies that she has exercised her franchise in the past.
