Facebook Post Claiming Actor Victor Banerjee’s Death Is Fake

A Facebook account that appeared to be that of actor Jisshu Sengupta falsely claimed that Victor Banerjee is dead.

CLAIM

The Facebook account of ‘Jisshu Entertainment’ claimed that Bengali actor Victor Banerjee who has appeared in films such as Barfi, Ta Ra Rum Pum among others have passed away. The Facebook page looked like an account of Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta. The claim, when translated in English reads: ‘Victor Banerjee passes away. My respects. He will stay in every Bengali's heart.’

Several social media users have shared similar posts on Facebook.

The Quint received a query about the same claim via its WhatsApp helpline.

TRUE OR FALSE?

The claim made by the Facebook account is false. Firstly, the Facebook account that had shared the false claim, is not the official account of Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta. Secondly, Victor Banerjee is alive which has been clarified by his daughter Keya Banerjee.

WHAT WE FOUND OUT

Actor Jisshu Sengupta clarified on Twitter that the Facebook account that had shared the news of Victor Banerjee passing away, is not his official account, but a fake one.

Further, Victor Banerjee’s daughter Keya Banerjee clarified that her father is very much alive and is currently busy with a shoot, reported DNA.
