A video of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee allegedly asking people to vote for Bharatiya Janata Party is doing the rounds on social media.

In the video, Mamata, while talking from the stage, is heard repeatedly saying “vote for BJP” in Bangla.

The Quint received a query on WhatsApp by a reader Yash Shankar asking to verify the authenticity of the video.

On searching for the video, it was revealed that the official page of BJP Bengal had tweeted the video on 23 April with the caption “The impact of MODI TSUNAMI - @mamataofficial appeals everyone to vote for BJP! The first time she's made any sense during this election campaign! Thanks a ton DIDI !!”

FACT

The video is doctored and a part of the original video has been taken and put on loop.

All India Trinamool Congress clarified the claims by posting the original video on its Twitter handle and said “#BREAKING Cheats exposed. Desperate @BJP4Bengal tweets doctored @mamataofficial video. Why did you edit out next 2 words? She says "৬ই মে আসছে দিন, ভালো করে গণতন্ত্রে বিজেপি সরকারকে ভোট দিয়ে কবর দিন।”

(Vote wisely & democratically on 6th May. Bid goodbye to BJP Govt) #SHAME"

The party also posted the link to the original video for further clarification.

The original statement made by Mamata was “Exercise your vote and give the BJP a burial, give them a burial, give them a burial.”

Mamata made the statement on Tuesday, 23 April, during a public meeting in Khanakul and a small clip from the video has been edited and doctored.
