CLAIM
A video is being circulated on social with the claim that a woman, who had allegedly kidnapped children from Sodhapur village of Haryana Panipat, has been caught. The video further accuses the woman of entering houses, steal things and kidnapping children.
The claim along with the video reads: “*पानीपत* कृप्या अपना व अपने बच्चों का ध्यान रखें। यह मामला गांव सौधापुर पानीपत का है ये युवती जो कि आपको सफेद कपड़ो में दिखई दे रही है ।अपने आपको आशा वर्कर बता कर लोगो के घर में घुस कर लूटपाट करती है और छोटे बच्चों को उठा कर के ले जाती है ।आज रंगे हाथ पकड़ी गई है।ये पूरा गिरोह पानीपत में सक्रिया है।”
(Translated: Panipat, please take care of yourself and of your children. This incident is from Sodhapur village in Panipat. The woman dressed in white steals things from houses and kidnaps children. Today, she has been caught red-handed. This gang is active in Panipat.)
TRUE OR FALSE?
The claim along the video is false. While the video is from Panipat’s Sodhapur village, the woman in the video did not kidnap any children. She had gone to the village to visit somebody’s house when the villagers suspected her of being a child-lifter.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
An official of Model Town police station, Panipat, confirmed to The Quint that the video is indeed from the town’s Sodhapur village but the woman had not kidnapped any children.
“The incident happened in August. The woman belongs to Panipat and had come to the village to visit somebody’s house. People suspected her of being a child-lifter. However, she had not kidnapped any children.”Official, Model Town Panipat police station
A FIR has been registered against the people who suspected her of being a child-lifter and the investigation is underway, the official added.
