CLAIM
Amidst the government formation in Maharashtra, an image of Shiv Sena Bhavan featuring the photograph of interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi has been circulated on Facebook.
The caption with the picture reads, “बस !!! अब यही देखना बाकी रह गया था (Translated: Just!!! This was the only thing left to see).”
Shiv Sena, NCP and the Congress formed the government on 28 November with Uddhav Thackeray swearing in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
TRUE OR FALSE?
The picture which shows a poster of Sonia Gandhi displayed on the facade of the Shiv Sena Bhavan in Mumbai is photoshopped
We found the original picture on the official website of Shiv Sena Jalgaon, which shows the facade displaying party Founder Bal Thackeray’s photo.
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
On doing a simple reverse image search on the picture, The Quint came across the Shiv Sena Jalgaon official website which featured the same image of the Bhavan with photograph of late Bal Thackeray.
We could identify that the picture with Sonia Gandhi’s poster is the exact picture which is posted on Shiv Sena Jalgaon official website.
Clearly, the photograph with a Sonia Gandhi poster on the Bhavan, located at Shivaji Park, Dadar, has been photoshopped.
