A court in Lucknow on Thursday sent the ISI terror suspect Aftab Ali to a 14-day judicial custody till 17 May. The Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) had arrested Aftab Ali in Faizabad and nabbed another for questioning, on Wednesday.
Special CJM Azad Singh fixed the hearing of an application moved by Special Task Force (STF) seeking his police remand for 10 days, on Friday.
In the application, the STF said since the accused has admitted that he was a spy of the Pakistani intelligence outfit, his custodial interrogation was required.
IG ATS Aseem Arun had earlier said that Aftab Ali was picked up from Faizabad in a joint operation conducted by the UP ATS, Military Intelligence and UP Intelligence. Faizabad is about 120 km from Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow.
Aftab is believed to have received training from the ISI in Pakistan and was in touch with officials in the Pakistan High Commission, the spokesman said, adding that the ATS was in possession of strong evidence against him.
While Aftab was arrested, another suspect was taken into custody and is being questioned.
