On 4 July, the Supreme Court finally brought an end to the much debated power tussle between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal.

The verdict clearly stated that L-G has no independent decision-making powers and cannot act as an ‘obstructionist’ to policy decisions taken by the AAP government.

Although the status of ‘full statehood’ was not granted by the bench, the verdict mentioned that the elected government should be allowed to make laws on subjects mentioned on state list and concurrent list, other than the three issues of land, police and law and order.
