A man in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh attempted to hurl a shoe at Rahul Gandhi during his Kisan Yatra and was arrested.
Later, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi hinted that the shoe-hurling incident was an act planned by the BJP.
I want to tell the BJP and RSS people... throw as many shoes on me as you want, I don’t fear you.Rahul Gandhi
Speaking on the incident, Rahul Gandhi said:
You hurled a shoe, your anger remains with you, my love remains with me. Your anger is your weakness. I am not going to take it even if you give it to me.
The assailant was identified as Hari Om Mishra, a resident of Hargaon, who told police that he was angry over the promises that were made by Rahul Gandhi during his roadshows, as he believed that the Congress was the cause of all problems faced by the farmers.
The shoe missed the Gandhi by a whisker and he looked back at the shoe as it zipped past him. Gandhi started his Kisan Yatra on Monday after a two-day break.
Rahul has been carrying out a campaign to assuage votes for the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. He has been conducting what the Congress calls Khat Sabhas is part of his Kisan Yatra.
