1. 4 Rape Accused Snatched 2 Guns from 10 Cops, Shot Dead: Police
Just eight days after the rape and murder of a veterinary doctor on the outskirts of Hyderabad, the four men suspected of the crime were shot dead in an early Friday,6 December morning “encounter” by the Cyberabad police, which claimed the unarmed men had somehow managed to snatch two guns from their escort of 10 cops, all of whom were armed.
The killings occurred at Chattanpally village near Shadnagar, a stone’s throw from where the suspects were alleged to have set the woman’s body on fire after killing her. Police had taken the accused to the spot to reconstruct the crime and recover the veterinarian’s mobile phone and accessories.

2. Day After Men Set Her Ablaze, Unnao Rape Victim Dies
The 23-year-old woman from Unnao district who was set on fire by five men, including two who were accused of raping her, died Friday, 6 December night in a Delhi hospital.
The woman, who died at 11:40 pm following cardiac arrest, had suffered more than 90 percent burns, most of which were facial and inhalation injuries.
She was brought to Delhi in an air ambulance Thursday evening, after she was waylaid and set ablaze while on her way to Raebareli in connection with the rape case.

3. Banking Crisis Over, Take Decisions Fearlessly: PM
Declaring that India’s banking sector has emerged from the crisis of the past, aided by a concerted set of government reforms, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, 6 December sent out a message to all banking employees to take “genuine business decisions” without fear.
He announced the imminent creation of a new framework which would bring banks under a protective umbrella to enable effective decision-making. The PM added that if a banker is afraid of taking decisions, he will be reluctant to take them. “The government cannot leave him helpless. It will take responsibility. I will take responsibility. That is how the country will progress.”

4. Rape Convicts Under POCSO Act Should Not Have Right to File Mercy Petitions: President Kovind
Amid outrage over women's safety and recent cases of rapes, President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday, 6 December, said convicts under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act should not have right to file mercy petition.
He was speaking at the National Convention on ‘Empowerment of Women for Social Transformation’ at the headquarters of Brahma Kumaris in Mount Abu, Rajasthan.
“Women’s safety is a serious issue. Rape convicts under POCSO Act should not have the right to file mercy petition. Parliament should review mercy petitions,” President Kovind said.

5. AIMPLB Seeks Review of Ayodhya Verdict, Claims Judgment Condoned Illegalities
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Friday, 6 December, said that the Ayodhya verdict, which stated that the entire disputed site must be handed over to a trust for the construction of Lord Rama’s temple, was a “failure rather than a fulfilment of complete justice” as the judgment was “contrary to law and self-contradictory”.
Pointing to a number of “illegalities and inaccuracies”, the petition seeking the review of 9 November verdict also claimed that the judgment was “violative of the complete justice that was invoked”.

6. India Beat West Indies by Six Wickets in First T20I
India beat West Indies by six wickets in the first T20 International to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series on Friday, 6 December.
Put into bat, the West Indies scored 207 for 5 but India rode on superb innings from Virat Kohli (94 not out) and KL Rahul (62) to overhaul the target, scoring 209 for four in 18.4 overs.
Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer struck a quick half-century as West Indies produced a fine batting display to post a challenging 207 for 5 against India in the first T20 International of the three-match series.

7. India Sensitises Missions Abroad Against Nithyananda
The government has cancelled the passport of rape-accused self-styled godman Nithyananda even as the Ecuadorian government denied that it has granted asylum to him.
External affairs ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said all Indian missions and posts abroad have been sensitised to inform local governments so that he could be traced.
“We have sensitised all our missions and posts and told them to inform local governments about him,” he said at a press conference. Nithyananda is wanted in India for multiple cases including alleged rape and abduction.

8. Enforce Inner Line Permit in Assam Before CAB: AGP
Bogged down by excessive criticism, the regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Friday, 6 December said they have written a letter to Union home minister Amit Shah demanding that the Centre ensure constitutional safeguards for the indigenous people of Assam before bringing in the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
The regional party’s stand on CAB has led to a divide among its rank and file as senior leaders Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Brindaban Goswami and Ramendra Narayan Kalita were absent from the emergency meeting of the party.

8. Man Stabs Airhostess Daughter-in-Law & Wife to Death as Grandkids Sleep in Room
A 64-year-old man stabbed his wife and airhostess daughter-in-law to death while they were sleeping in the early hours of Friday, 6 December. The accused, Satish Chaudhary, suspected both women of having extramarital relationships. His grandkids, aged three and one, were in the same room where the murders took place.
Satish, who worked as a private tutor, had latched the door of his younger son Saurabh’s room before attacking his wife Snehlata, 62, and Pragya, 35, who was married to his elder son, police said. Saurabh also sustained injuries while trying to save his mother.
