Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav met BSP supremo Mayawati at the latter's residence in Lucknow on Sunday, 13 January, a day after the SP and the BSP announced their tie-up in Uttar Pradesh for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Training his guns on the BJP, Tejashwi said the party will be “whitewashed” in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

“There’s (an) atmosphere today where they want to scrap Baba Saheb’s Constitution and implement ‘Nagpur laws’... People welcome the steps taken by Mayawati and Akhilesh ji. BJP will be whitewashed in UP and Bihar. They won’t win even one seat in UP. SP-BSP alliance will win all seats.”

At the meeting which took place on Sunday night, Tejashwi also reportedly said that his father Lalu Yadav always wished for a Bihar-like 'magathbandhan' of parties to take on the BJP. He also also slammed the Modi government for using institutions like the CBI to get back at its opponents.

The RJD leader is expected to hold a meeting with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday, reported The Times of India.

In their alliance for Uttar Pradesh for the 2019 general elections, the SP and BSP would be sharing 38 seats each, while keeping the Congress out. The parties, however, said they would not field candidates in Amethi and Raebareli, represented by Congress President Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Meanwhile, the Congress on Sunday said it would contest in all the 80 seats of the politically crucial state.
