- In a wave of anti-incumbency, Thursday’s assembly election results ended the three-term, 15-year-rule of Gogoi-led Congress government in Assam.
- The BJP, along with its allies, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodo Peoples Front, swept the state by winning 60 , 14 and 12 seats respectively, in the 126-member assembly. BJP’s Sarbananda Sonowal will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister on 24 May.
