After suffering successive defeats in both the Lok Sabha and the assembly polls, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has cleared a blueprint for the revival of the grand old party in the capital.

A report in the Times of India states that a crack team of 10 youth leaders will lead the charge of the party in Delhi, aiming to completely revamp it. The team will be headed by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ajay Maken and will consist of a group of young professionally qualified members––including six women. The members have been drawn from among young councillors, NSUI and Youth Congress. This team will lead the charge against the incumbent AAP in the capital.

The party is also looking to tap social media as a key platform of communication with the new generation of voters. It’s reported that Sharmistha Mukherjee––daughter of President Pranab Mukherjee––will be appointed as the Delhi unit’s spokesperson and in-charge of the DPCC communication department.

The members of the team will be given departments within the state government to follow and create a knowledge bank on all developments, decisions and outcomes. This knowledge bank will essentially guide Congress’s campaign against the AAP-led government.

Former Delhi University presidents Ragini Nayak and Amrita Dhawan––as well as some municipal councillors––are also likely to be inducted into the panel.

It is clear that the party is expending all its energies on revamping the organisation at the grass roots level. One can safely assume that the top leadership will depend heavily on this fresh young team for inputs which will help them develop effective programmes keeping in mind the changing demographic of the country, aka, a younger electorate with higher aspirations.
