Senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani will be defending criminal-turned-politician Mohammad Shahabuddin in the Supreme Court after it issued a notice to the former RJD MP on a plea challenging the bail granted to him in a murder case.
Jethmalani who had been expelled from the BJP is currently a Rajya Sabha member of the RJD from Bihar and has formerly represented other politicians like BJP Chief Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
An RJD leader close to Shahabuddin said:
Jethmalani has accepted Shahabuddin’s request to appear in the Supreme Court on his behalf. Jethmalani is likely to file ‘wakalatnama’ on Saturday to argue in the apex court for Shahabuddin.
The bench of Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice Amitava Roy on Monday also issued notice on a plea that sought to put on hold the execution of the Patna high court order granting bail to Shahabuddin.
The Bihar government had also sought issuance of non-bailable arrest warrant against Shahabuddin.
