Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is on a three-day visit to Karnataka, visited Baglakot and Bilajpur districts of the state, on Sunday, 25 February.

Addressing a gathering at Mallikarjun High School Ground in Vijayapura's Mulawad, he said that the Congress as a party is inspired by the ideology of Basavanna, a 12th Century Lingayat philosopher who spread social awareness through the Bhakti movement.

He attacked PM Narendra Modi, asking him to ‘practise what he preaches, especially when he mentions Basavanna in his long speeches’.

“The next time that PM Modi comes to Karnataka, ask him if he believes in Basavanna's policy of ‘practise what you preach’,” Gandhi said.

The money that belongs to the farmers is being snatched away about given to top businessmen. Modiji, you have waived off big loans taken by these businessmen, but will you do the same for India’s farmers?

Gandhi then praised CM Siddaramaiah for waiving loans worth upto Rs 8,000 crore.
