As Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi’s month-long ‘Kisan Yatra’ has come to an end, his sister Priyanka Gandhi will be the next one to hit the campaign trail, ahead of next year’s UP Assembly polls, reported the Indian Express.
She is set to hold meetings across the state, beginning with an event on 19 November in Allahabad to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Reportedly, she will make her way to the constituencies where the party has come first and second. She will also take up the issue of Dalits, given the death of PhD scholar Rohith Vemula’s death is making headlines again.
“After the yatra of Rahul Gandhi enthused party workers and also gave issues to farmers to talk about, the Congress will not sit relaxed in Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka Gandhi would now go on a campaign trail across the state,” said a senior party leader.
Initially, the idea of both Rahul and Priyanka campaigning together was touted by the party but dropped later.
The constituencies where the party has better chances of winning due to local equations, will be where she will hold public meetings.
Till now, Priyanka is focusing on the constituencies of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, being those of Rae Bareli and Amethi.
