Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew the curtains on his high-voltage campaign spree in Gujarat on Tuesday, 12 December, 48 hours before the state goes into the final phase of polls.

Calling out to his ‘Gujarati brothers and sisters’ through a series of emotional tweets, Modi urged them to give a ‘befitting reply to the lies and negativity spread by the opposition.”

Thanking the people for their affection and support, Modi wrote:

Calling the voters to come out in large numbers and cast their votes, the BJP frontman requested the people to ensure a victory for the party. Gujarat has traditionally remained a BJP bastion with the party ruling the state for over two decades.

Hitting out at the Congress, Modi asked voters to prove their ‘lies’ wrong, by giving them a ‘fitting reply.’ Invoking the Gujarati sentiment, he further said that it was “natural for every Gujarati to feel hurt” at the opposition’s claims.

Playing on the party’s development agenda, Modi said that with BJP at the centre and the state, Gujarat could reach new heights, should they be voted to power.

On the last day of campaigning, Modi was the talk of the town as he flew in a seaplane from the Sabarmati River to Dharoi Dam in Mehsana district, to offer prayers at the famous Ambaji Temple.

Tuesday, 12 December, is the last day of campaigning for the second and final phase of voting which will take place on 14 December, covering the remaining 93 assembly seats. The first phase of polling, covering 89 seats, took place on 9 December.
