Addressing a rally in the city of Fatehpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the voters of Uttar Pradesh to see through the lies of Akhilesh Yadav’s Sarkar. In a high-pitched appeal for votes, he asked the voters to boot the Samajwadi Party (SP) out of power and opt for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the assembly elections.

Attacking the ruling government for the law and order situation in the state, PM Modi alluded to the issue of SP leader Gayatri Prajapati who was accused of raping a woman and attempting to rape her daughter.

Uttar Pradesh is known for crimes. Shouldn’t UP improve its law and order situation? [...] Akhilesh has lost the game... SP is least concerned about improving law and order situation in UP. Urge people to elect a government that would ensure the safety of the people.

Attacking Uttar Pradesh's ruling Samajwadi Party for playing politics over religion, PM Narendra Modi said that everyone was being affected by it.

If a village receives funds for a graveyard, then it should also get funds for a cremation ground... If you provide uninterrupted power supply for Eid, then you should also do it for Holi.

He also highlighted the poll promises made by the state wing of the Bharataiya Janata Party. He said:

I want to congratulate the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP. They have promised to waive farmers’ debts if they come to power.

The comments from Modi come on the day that Uttar Pradesh goes for the third phase of its assembly polls.

Voting for 69 seats in the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections began on Sunday amid tight security. Heavy security deployment has been made across the 12 districts where polling began. Sensitive polling stations marked by the Election Commission (EC) are being monitored online, an official said.
