Rahul Gandhi’s British Citizenship Row
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was served a showcause notice by the Ethics Committee of Parliament on Monday, asking whether he had declared himself as a British citizen during his stay in the United Kingdom.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that Rahul Gandhi be stripped off his parliamentary membership, as well as Indian citizenship. The Congress party dismissed Swamy’s charge.
Rahul Gandhi’s reply on this issue was brief. He said, “We’ll deal with that.”
Congress Demands Immediate Action Against Vijay Mallya
Congress criticised the BJP for not taking strict action against liquor baron Vijay Mallya.
A few Congress members chanting in unison “Vijay Mallya ko wapas lao, wapas lao! Wapas lao!” (Bring Vijay Mallya back, bring him back!)
The party also urged the government to take down their “fair and lovely scheme” and take decisive action against both Vjiay Mallya and Lalit Modi.
The Indian banks and judiciary have been making efforts to recover Rs 9,000 crore dues from billionaire Vijay Mallya. However, Mallya in a recent interview with The Sunday Guardian indicated that this may not be the right time to return to India.
No Change in Current Reservation Policy, Clarifies Jaitley
Bahujan Samaj Party leader, Mayawati attacked the RSS for its comment on privileged sections of the society seeking reservations. She demanded if only the economically backward are entitled to the reservation, and not the socially backward.
Arun Jaitley clarified that there will no change in the current reservation policy.
