I Wasn’t Elected to Cut Ribbons, Will Weed Out Graft: Modi
Modi made a strong pitch for demonetisation saying that the move is aimed to weed out corruption from the country and give India its long deserving place.
The country, which was once referred to as a 'Golden Bird', has now become the opposite, Modi says.
Pinpointing graft as the biggest stumbling block in the progress of the country, Modi says that he was voted to power with a majority in 2014 by the people of India “not to cut ribbons and light inaugural lamps”.
Demonetisation is a ‘Safaai Abhiyaan’: Modi
Thanking the crowd for supporting the demonetisation drive, Modi says the country needs to get rid of not only “kaala dhan” (black money) but also “kaala man” (evil intentions).
Calling note ban a “safaai abhiyaan” (cleanliness drive) against black money, Modi tells the crowd that all the black money will be returned to the economy.
Modi says that he is “fighting to make the honest, powerful”. “In one stroke, fake notes, terrorism, human trafficking, drug mafia were dealt with after demonetisation,” he says.
Modi Rakes Up OROP Issue
He also touched upon the contentious One Rank One Pension scheme (OROP) issue.
“My Army jawans were demanding OROP for the last 40 years, the party that ruled the country then never thought of their demands,” he says.
“Rs 6,600 crore have already been disbursed under OROP and the rest will be disbursed at the earliest,” he tells the crowd.
PM Modi Assures Electricity, Employment Opportunities
PM Modi tells the crowd that every village in India will receive electricity in the coming days.
“My government took the initiative and said that we will electrify villages within 1,000 days. Over 12,000 villages have already been electrified,” he says.
He says that poor families will receive gas connections and that he will see to it that the Char Dham project offers job opportunities for people from all economic backgrounds.
The economy will change completely during my tenure, he promises.
