Jayanagar BJP MLA BN Vijaya Kumar Dies Days Before Karnataka Polls

In view of the death, the EC has decided to put on hold the Jayanagar poll until further notice.

BN Vijaya Kumar, the sitting BJP MLA of Jayanagar, died of a massive heart attack at a hospital in Bengaluru in the early hours of 4 May, the part, the party informed on Friday, 4 May, reported PTI.

Vijaya Kumar had collapsed during an election campaign in Jayanagar constituency in the city and was shifted to government-run Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, where efforts to resuscitate him failed, BJP spokesperson S Prakash told PTI.

The Election Commission has decided to put on hold the Jayanagar poll until further notice.

A two-time legislative from the Jayanagar constituency, had joined the party in 1990 and was General Secretary of the Bengaluru city BJP for almost 12 years. He was looking forward to his hat-trick win in the upcoming 12 May elections.

The BJP Karnataka Twitter handle eulogised Kumar’s dedication to his party.

Karnataka Cheif Minister Siddaramaiah and the Congress also expressed condolences via Twitter.
