Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK secured 135 seats in the election to give the party a simple majority in Tamil Nadu. Her win has ended the 30-year-long anti-incumbency trend in the state.

DMK President M Karunanidhi won the seat of Tiruvarur from where he was contesting. Actor Vijayakanth’s DMDK failed to make an impression on the voters as he did not get a single seat in the elections.

DMK treasurer MK Stalin appealed to the Election Commission to look into the matter of AIADMK using influence to win the elections. He also said the party might move the court if the EC does not take the matter seriously.

Jayalalithaa’s supporters came out onto the streets to celebrate the party’s win. She said that she, along with the party, will strive to make Tamil Nadu stand first in all spheres of development.
