The first pictures of Soundarya Rajinikanth and Vishagan Vanangamudi’s pre-wedding celebrations are here. The couple are set to tie the knot on 11 February 2019 in an intimate affair at The Leela Palace in MRC Nagar, Chennai. The family has been keeping it a low-key affair.

The celebrations were kicked off today with a ‘sumangali pooja,’ followed by a reception at Raghavendra Mandapam in Kodambakkam, Chennai. Soundarya and Vishagan got engaged in a private family ceremony last year. From cocktail parties to exclusive receptions for the industry biggies, the weekend is expected to be a lavish affair.

2. Electric Buses to Metro Expansion: What Chennai Gets in TN’s Budget

Chennai grabbed a good share of infrastructure and other development projects in the Tamil Nadu Budget 2019-20, presented by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam on Friday. He declared that the revenue deficit for the year 2019-20 will decrease to Rs 14,314.76 crore from Rs 19,319.02 crore, the revised estimate for 2018-19.

Intelligent Transport System to be implemented in Chennai at a cost of Rs 660 crore. This project will involve optimisation and improvement in the city’s traffic, public bus transportation and transport management systems. A comprehensive parking management system will be implemented at an outlay of Rs 2,000 crore with underground and multi-level parking facilities.

Namakkal has, over the years, earned a reputation for churning out toppers in the State public exams. But now, a group of fantastic girl footballers are making the district proud. The football team from the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Namakkal has won the Goethe Super League football tournament for schools, held in Chennai.

The 14-member team, along with their coach, will be off to Germany for attending a special football camp for improving their soccer skills. The Goethe-Institut is sponsoring the entire trip.

4. Apollo Approaches HC Against Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry

Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Limited has approached the Madras High Court to restrain Justice A Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry, constituted in 2017 to probe into circumstances that led to death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, from inquiring into the correctness, adequacy or inadequacy of medical treatment provided to her at the hospital in Chennai before her death on 5 December 2016.

The hospital has also filed a writ petition urging the High Court to appoint an independent medical board comprising specialist doctors not associated with the State government to probe issues pertaining to treatment provided to Jayalalithaa if the court thought that the terms of reference of the Commission of Inquiry would necessitate a probe into the treatment provided to her.

A 30-year-old school teacher was crushed to death when a lorry ran amok and hit a motorist and a government bus in Kancheepuram on Tuesday. The incident came to public attention on Friday after CCTV footage of the incident was released. Police said the deceased were identified as Sophia (30), a native of Rettamangalam near Uthiramerur, a teacher in a private home for orphan children at Chengalpattu.

“The accident took place on Tuesday at around 8.50 am when she was waiting to board the bus. A government bus plying between Madurantakam and Chengalpattu reached Nelvoy Koot road junction and slowed down at the stop. Sophia was about to board the bus from the rear entrance. At this point a speeding truck, plying from Uthiramerur to Chengalpattu, ran over a motorist and crushed the woman before coming to a halt,” a police officer said.
