Madikeri police has filed an FIR against former minister KJ George and two IPS officers who were accused of harassment by Mangaluru DySP Ganapathy.
This came a day after George resigned as Bengaluru development minister.
Hours before Mangaluru DySP Ganapathy committed suicide in a Madikeri lodge on 7 July, he spoke to a local Kannada channel in which he accused the senior officials and the minister of harassment.
The police officer had been suspended for allegedly stealing money seized from a hawala racket.
Judge Annapoorneshwari of Madikeri Additional JMFC court on Monday ordered the Madikeri Town police to lodge an FIR against the former minister and other officials.
The court ordered the police to file an FIR after a private complaint was filed by Ganapathy’s son Nehal on 11 July.
According to News9, the FIR that bears the number 89/2016, in which George is mentioned as accused number 1, and Lokayukta IGP Pronab Mohanty and ADGP (intelligence) AM Prasad are accused number two and three respectively.
The channel also reported that residents protested outside the police station as there was a delay in filing the FIR.
George resigned as the Bengaluru development minister on Monday, saying that he was ready to face any action if proved guilty.
However, opposition leaders – JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy and BJP leader Jagadish Shettar – demanded a CBI enquiry in the case and suspension of the officials for a fair investigation.
