Jyoti Sen had unsuccessfully contested the 2012 assembly elections from Kasumpti as an independent. Pandey said on the occasion:

People from different walks of life are joining the BJP as they are influenced by the progressive and developmental policies of the party.

He claimed that the BJP is all set to win more than 50 seats in the 68-seat assembly. Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh will be held in a single phase on 9 November.
