The latest Assembly Election results threw in quite a few surprises. For the Congress, they weren’t pleasant ones. Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) made in-roads into new territories. Here are two maps showing how have the two parties shaped in the past decade.
Mighty Decline of the Congress
The grand national party is in shambles, by losing almost half of the states it was ruling, in just a decade. Congress fell from 14 states in 2006, to 7 states this year. Karnataka is the only major state, still with the party.
Steady Rise of The BJP
The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has doubled its presence in the same timeframe. From 4 states in 2006, BJP has grown to 9 states in 2016. And most of them are big states, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
