Gujarat Election Dates to Be Announced at 1 pm

The dates for the much-awaited Gujarat Assembly elections 2017 will be announced by the Election Commission at 1 pm today.

This comes more than a week after the EC announced the schedule for the Himachal Pradesh elections, but opted to leave out Gujarat. The Chief Election Commissioner only indicated that Gujarat elections would be held before 18 December and that there would be simultaneous counting in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.

The Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections will be held on 9 November, and the results would be announced on 18 December.

Several people lashed out at the exclusion of Gujarat from EC’s election schedule announcement on 12 October. Some went on to accuse the Election Commission of deliberately delaying the announcement to the benefit of the BJP, implying the ruling party would utilise the delay to announce schemes and indulge in vote-bank politics.
