It takes years of labour and exemplary political acumen to even dream of heading a state. But this is the story of a man who possessed neither, and yet went on to become a prime minister. A man, who was unaware even a day before his anointment, that he will be PM of world’s largest democracy.

Discomfort for Congress

Baru, who once served as the media advisor to the Prime Minister, is currently the Director for Geo-Economics and Strategy at the International Institute for Strategic Studies. Baru was Manmohan Singh’s media advisor from 2004 to 2008.

A movie based on Baru’s book could spell trouble for members of the Congress party, claims The Economic Times report. The initial look of the film reportedly is based on how the Congress party refused to have a state funeral for late former Prime Minister Narsimha Rao in Delhi.

Rao’s last rites were held in Hyderabad after Congress leaders convinced Rao’s kin to do so.

Cast

The movie producers told The Economic Times that they were aspiring to cast Manoj Bajpayee, who played the role of Professor Siras in Aligarh, as Sanjaya Baru.

The producers are looking at faces form overseas to fit the role of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in case they do not find a fitting face from India. The producer, Sanjay Bohra, has said that:

The movie will be a true reflection of Mr Sanjaya Baru’s book. The endeavour is not to create any sensation but to present a true account of what transpired during those ten years which changed the political spectrum of the country and fortunes of India’s oldest political party-Congress.
