Electoral Bonds Data: BJP Got Almost 50% Of Total, Thrice More Than No. 2 Party

The Election Commission of India (ECI) uploaded the electoral bonds data on its website on Thursday, 14 March.

This comes two days after the State Bank of India provided the data to ECI after receiving directions for the same from the Supreme Court.

The Bharatiya Janata Party benefitted the most out of the scheme by receiving over Rs 6,000 crore, which is three times more than the second highest beneficiary, and more that the combined amount received by next six parties.

5. Biju Janata Dal: Rs 775.5 crore

6. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Parliament: Rs 639 crore

7. YSR Congress Party: Rs 337 crore

8. Telugu Desam Party: Rs 218.9 crore

9. Shiv Sena: 158.4 crore

10. Rashtriya Janata Dal: Rs 72.5 crore

In its order last month, the apex court declared the electoral bonds scheme as 'unconstitutional', and asked that the SBI provide details of the bonds purchased between April 2019-February 2024 to the EC by 6 March.

The SC had ordered that the EC must reveal the date of purchase of each electoral bond, the name of the purchaser of the bond, the denomination of the electoral bond purchased, and details of each bond encashed by political parties which shall include the date of encashment and the denomination.
