A BJP office in Kolkata’s Bhabanipur was vandalised on Monday, 4 February, as West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee continued with her ‘Save the Constitution’ dharna to protest the CBI’s purported attempt to question Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in chit fund scam cases.
The BJP blamed “TMC goons” for the vandalism, saying that “law and order has completely collapsed” and “no one is safe under TMC”.
Notably, Mamata Banerjee is an MLA from the Bhabanipur constituency.

TMC party workers on Monday also took out protest rallies in various parts of the state. In places like Burdwan, East Purulia, Birbhum, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas districts, the protesters burnt effigies of Modi and Shah.
The activists also obstructed train movement in Howrah and Hooghly districts, and put up blockades on national highway in Bankura district.
Party supporters carrying black flags and wearing black masks raised slogans against the BJP government while marching through the streets.
The party's student wing activists staged rallies outside various colleges.
The state of West Bengal plunged into an unprecedented crisis after a CBI team went to Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar’s residence to question him in connection with ponzi scam cases, but was detained by the state police. The team was later released. Banerjee voiced her support for Kumar and slammed the BJP for attacking “federalism and the constitutional values” of the country.
