Leaders of the AIADMK and the DMDK gathered at a star hotel in Meenambakkam, on Wednesday, 6 March, to hold talks with the BJP’s Piyush Goyal, who is said to have checked in. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also is set to address a rally at Vandalur (Chennai) int the evening. It is possible that the DMDK might officially announce their alliance with the AIADMK.
While no official word is out yet, all parties concerned have been hinting heavily at an alliance.
The Hints
1. In an interaction with the media at the Chennai Airport, Piyush Goyal, in response to a question on the possible BJP-DMDK alliance said, ‘Expect surprises’.
2. Further to this, huge banners at the venue of the BJP rally - that is to be held at Vandalur - have pictures of DMDK Chief Vijayakanth, and Tamil Manila Congress Chief G K Vasan, have been displayed prominently.
3. At his residence, Deputy CM O Paneerselvam confirms alliance between DMDK and AIADMK. Paneerselvam says DMDK leaders will meet them shortly to finalise the electoral pact.
The media, and the people of Tamil Nadu now await an official, public confirmation of the alliance at the rally.
