In his address at the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a jibe at his critics in the opposition.
Modi took a direct jibe at Aam Aadmi Party MP Bhagwant Mann, who has been a consistent critic of Modi – taking jibes at him during public rallies.
Borrowing lines from a Charwaha poem, Modi said:
Jab tak jio mauj karo (while you are alive, have fun), karj karo aur ghee piyo (take debts and drink as much ghee as you want).
But he went on to add that in today's times, if Mann was to offer this advice to someone "he would have said drink something else."
Mann has been accused of showing up drunk in Parliament earlier by his AAP colleague Harinder Singh Khalsa. Mann was not happy about this personal dig at him. Reacting to the statement, he said:
Today’s speech in Parliament showed his fear in upcoming elections. He made some baseless allegations against me.
Modi also attacked Congress for “claiming entire credit” for the country's independence and objected to certain comments made by Congress' leader Mallikarjun Kharge in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
Kharge had said while Indira Gandhi had sacrificed her life for the country, “even a dog from Modi’s family” had come forward.
“Hum kutton ki paramapara se pale bhade nahi hain (we have not grown in a culture of dogs)," Modi retorted.
