Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal found it hard to get in terms with Ashutosh’s departure from the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday, 15 August when he announced his resignation.
In a Tweet that comes across as rather affectionate, Kejriwal asked Ashutosh, “how can we accept your resignation? No, not in this Life.”
Former journalist Ashutosh took to Twitter to announce his resignation from the party earlier on Wednesday. He cited ‘personal reasons’ for his departure.
Ashutosh has also requested the media to respect his privacy, and said that he would not be giving any statement to any media person.
From TV to Politics
Ashutosh was born Ashutosh Gupta but dropped his last name during the Mandal Commission agitation in 1990 so that the public may not associate him with his caste identity.
He was an active component of Anna Hazare's mass movement against corruption and even wrote a book on the Jan Lokpal Movement.
A successful TV journalist, Ashutosh joined Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party in January, 2014. He contested 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Chandni Chowk, in which he won more votes than Kapil Sibal of the Congress, but lost to Dr Harsh Vardhan of BJP.
When in January, 2018 the Delhi Chief Minister (CM) was looking within his party to fill the Rajya Sabha seat, it was being speculated that Ashutosh was being considered for the post, reported NDTV.
However, the CM finally went with senior leader Sanjay Singh, Delhi-based businessman Sushil Gupta and Chartered Accountant ND Gupta. This decision of Kejriwal upset many aspiring candidates.
