Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have positioned themselves on opposite sides on everything, in the last couple of years.

But off-late the two leaders seem to be cozying up. During his visit to West Bengal, PM Modi and Mamata have shared a common platform on more than one occasion.

Light Moments and Exclusive Meeting

Be it, during their giggly conversations while sharing the stage during the inauguration of the modernised IISCO Steel Plantin Asansol or exclusive meeting at Raj Bhavan, the two have been spotted chit-chatting thrice in the last couple of days.

Meanwhile, Mamata has also claimed that during their meeting at the Raj Bhavan, the West Bengal CM has handed over a seven-page memorandum highlighting the state’s long pending economic demands to the PM, who has promised to look into it with priority, as reported by the Business Standard.

Modi Praises Mamata

The Indian PM has been all praises for Mamata in the last few days. Modi has especially applauded the West Bengal CM’s extra-ordinary role during her Bangladesh trip in strengthening Indo-Bangla bilateral relations.

Modi also praised her government’s success in implementing several social security schemes and it’s success in revenue mobilisation.

Frequent Chit-chat

While, the two leaders have had two meetings in the past two months, in addition to Modi’s trip to West Bengal, however, the two have spoken over the phone on at least half a dozen occasions.

According to a report in The Indian Express, the two have spoken over issues like the Nepal earthquake, India-Bangladesh enclave exchange, the Teesta  water sharing agreement and the smooth passage of the Land Boundary Agreement in Parliament.

Role Reversal

Though, it is still hard to determine whether there is a possibility of political realignment between the two parties (BJP and TMC), considering they were allies back in the day, but a definite role reversal from Mamata’s end cannot be ignored.

Don’t forget, she is the same Mamata Banerjee who was literally boycotting every policy that the PM initiated and every move of the BJP government after coming into power at the Centre.
