BJP national president Amit Shah won Gujarat's prestigious Gandhinagar seat by a record margin of 5,11,180 lakh votes. By doing so, Shah beat veteran BJP leader LK Advani's record of 4.83 lakh votes in this seat.
The Congress candidate from the seat was CJ Chavda.
The BJP is leading in all 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
With its candidates securing leads of more than three lakh votes in nine seats, the party appeared set to repeat its 2014 performance.
BJP president Amit Shah Thursday hailed the BJP's superb showing in the Lok Sabha polls as "victory of India" and said it is people's mandate against the Opposition's propaganda and personal attacks as well as their total rejection of politics of dynasty, appeasement and casteism.
In a series of tweets, Shah said this victory is a "win of people's confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi".
