Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Integrated Case Management System in New Delhi on 10 May – a step towards digitising the Supreme Court. The system will allow the digital filing of cases in the Supreme Court, and allow litigants to access data and retrieve information online.

PM Modi launched the system in the presence of Chief Justice of India, Jagdish Singh Khehar, and Union Minister for Law and Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi said that technology has the power to transform our economic potential. India must create a mass movement to provide legal aid to the poor, he said.

We propose to integrate the system with all the 24 high courts and the subordinate courts. It will help usher transparency, reduce manipulation and help the litigant know about the progress of the case on a real time basis.
JS Khehar, Chief Justice of India

Under the new system, departments in both central and state governments will be notified online if they are made party to a case. The system also enables online processing of the court fees.

The system informs you about delays. What is the delay for limitation and what should be your application and how many days of delay must you explain? This system tells your client, the day process (notice) is served upon the other party, the day the case is taken up, the days on which various orders are passed
JS Khehar

Elaborating on the benefits of the new system, the CJI said "nobody now can say he has filed, when not filed, because the client knows the moment you have filed. The moment you file, the filing system tells you about what court fees you have to pay. And so does your client know that this much is the amount of court fees involved."
