After the disqualification of 20 MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has penned an open letter to the citizens of the national capital alleging that the Centre is harassing the Delhi government on purpose.

While recounting the work done by the Aam Aadmi Party in the past 3 years, Sisodia has alleged that this is not the first time the Centre is deliberately maligning the image of the party.

The MLAs were given specific responsibilities like overlooking the government schools, government hospitals, etc. They were never given any travel allowances of accommodations and they traveled to places spending their own money because they have all been activists of the (Anna) movement and are here to serve the nation. If they did not enjoy any such privileges, how did they hold the ‘office of profit’?

Further alleging that these MLAs have been disqualified by the Election Commission on false grounds, the letter said that they were not given any chance to prove their case.

The MLAs requested the election commission to give them an opportunity to prove themselves. The Election Commission in a letter dated 23 June (2017) had said that they will allot a date for the case to be heard but never did. The central government has directly passed orders on the MLAs’ disqualification without any hearing, proofs or witnesses.

Sisodia further alleged that it was a conspiracy as the BJP government cannot digest the pace with which Delhi was developing under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s government. He also alleged that this was done so that Delhi has to face by-elections and all the development work in the capital comes to a halt.

Ending the letter on an emotional note, he appealed to the citizens to come to the party’s rescue.

You are my only hope. I am sure you will give an appropriate reply to the injustice.

In a major setback to the Aam Aadmi Party, President Ram Nath Kovind has disqualified 20 of its MLAs in Delhi for allegedly holding offices of profit.

Kovind gave his assent to the recommendation by the Election Commission (EC) to disqualify the 20 AAP MLAs.
