A woman tourist from Himachal Pradesh was found dead at a plush hotel in Goa with police suspecting her absconding husband's involvement in the crime, an official said on Sunday, 28 April.
Alka Saini, who belonged to Himachal Pradesh, and her husband checked into the hotel, located at Arpora beach village in North Goa district, on 20 April, Anjuna police station inspector Navlesh Desai said.
Saini's body was found on Saturday, 27 April, when the hotel's maintenance staff entered the room to clean it, he said.
"The woman's throat was found slit," he said.
Her husband was absconding and a search for him was underway, Desai said, refusing to divulge any further details and the suspect's identity.
According to The Hindu, a Goa Police team arrested a suspect in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday. North Goa SP Chandan Choudhary said that the accused will be brought to Goa in the evening on Sunday, declining to comment further.
A team has also been sent to Chandigarh to track down other suspects. According to police sources, they have identified her husband, Sukhwinder Singh, who left the hotel premises on Saturday, 27 April morning with four unidentified men, according to CCTV footage.
They also said that the hotel’s CCTV camera showed two persons exiting the room sometime before the body was discovered by the hotel staff, as per IANS.
“Police parties have been dispatched to look for the duo. We have also alerted police personnel posted at bus stations, railway stations, the Dabolim International Airport and border check points,” the source said.
The sources also said that Alka was dressed in a north Indian bridal dress when the two checked in. The body has been sent for post mortem to the Goa Medical College.
Desai said, “a case of murder has been registered.
