Almost a week after the sudden death of Rohit Shekhar, son of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister ND Tiwari, his wife has emerged as the alleged murderer.

Apoorva Shukla Tiwari confessed to strangulating an inebriated Rohit. She later destroyed all evidence – all within 90 minutes.

The couple was trapped in an “unhappy and turbulent” marriage, according to cops.

Who’s Apoorva Shukla Tiwari?

Forty-year-old Apoorva from Indore had been practising law at the Supreme Court of India.

Although she identified herself as president of the Youth Wing of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) in her Twitter bio, the latter denied her association with the organisation when The Quint tried to verify. The INTUC’s Youth Wing said Sanjay Gaba was the president since 2016 – and Apoorva has never held any such position.

‘Apoorva’s Family Greedy, Wanted to Usurp Property’

In May 2018, Rohit and Apoorva tied the knot. The couple had met in Lucknow through a matrimonial site in 2017.

Rohit’s mother Ujjwala told NDTV that Apoorva and Rohit were seeing each other for a year, and then took a break.

“They were not in touch from January to March 2018.”
Ujjwala Tiwari told NDTV

She claimed that Rohit had maintained his distance from her – and “said he did not want to marry her.”

“But on 2 April 2018, they came to me and expressed their wish to get married,” she added.

However, their relationship was seemingly strained since the beginning.

Ujjwala told Hindustan Times that they both had discussed mutual divorce several times.

She even alleged to NDTV that Apoorva wanted to usurp the property that belonged to her sons, Rohit and Siddarth, as it was closer to the Supreme Court, where she practised law.

"Apoorva's family is greedy for money, you will get to know,” Ujjwala added.
