The Bhagavad Gita as we know it best is a compendium of Krishna’s counsel to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. A 700-verse scripture in Sanskrit, Gita is part of the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
But, the story of the Mahabharata itself is so diverse, involving multiple narratives — ranging from the original context of Sanjaya narrating the battle to the blind king Dritharashtra, to the series of compositions set off by Ved Vyas — that it is rather limiting to imagine the Gita as a singular text (the video also mentions other Gitas of the Vedic tradition, like the Anu Gita and the Ram Gita).
Watch this video to know how Vedic ideas and thought were disseminated and appropriated over the ages.
