The medical reports of Aaj Tak journalist, Akshay Singh, who died under mysterious circumstances have been collected by the CBI and sent to a medical board. Akshay Singh was following the story of Vyapam beneficiary Namrata Damor who also died under mysterious circumstances. The reports have been sent for examination to eliminate the possibility of any medical pre-condition that could have led to his death.
The office staff of the channel may also be quizzed in connection with the case. The CBI, however, clarified that they will wait for expert opinion before probing in another direction.
Singh was conducting a probe into Damor’s death, whose body was found on a rail track in Ujjain. Speculation is rife that Damor was possibly murdered as she might have benefitted from the scam.
Singh collapsed at Damor’s house after interviewing her parents. At the time of his death, he was in a place with over 35 people linked directly or indirectly to the scam. May of those people were found dead in mysterious circumstances.
After the interview, he began frothing at the mouth. He was rushed to the civil hospital and later to a private hospital, but doctors failed to revive him. From there he was taken to another hospital in Dahod, Gujarat, where he was declared brought dead.
Damor’s death is also being investigated by the CBI and the latter is likely to quiz two doctors who have given contradictory post-mortem reports. While the first team under Dr B B Purohit suggested her death was a result of “violent asphyxia as a result of smothering” indicating murder, Dr D S Barhkur, Director of Medico-Legal Institute, rubbished it saying it was most likely suicide as Damor was alive before falling on the tracks.
