A visually-impaired woman was allegedly raped by three men on Friday, 4 May, in a shanty in Delhi’s Karol Bagh.
One among the accused was arrested by the police on the same day after the victim reportedly identified him by voice.
The accused was the 20-year-old survivor’s neighbour, and worked as an e-rickshaw driver. He reportedly attempted to lure her into a shanty when her mother was away.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, the survivor alleged that she was sitting outside her house when the accused, Chotu Pal, approached her. When she refused his advances, he allegedly dragged her into a neighboring shanty. He, along with his two accomplices, then allegedly raped her, covering her mouth in a bid to stifle her screams.
When her mother returned half an hour later, she found her daughter in the corner of the house, weeping.
When I returned home around 30 minutes later, I found my daughter crying. When I got to know that Pal had raped her, I called him on his phone to confront him but he wouldn’t receive my calls. I then called the police.Rape survivor’s mother to HT
A case was filed in the Desh Bandhu Gupta Road Police Station after the woman was sent for a medical test confirming that she had been raped.
While the police initially claimed that only one man had raped her, the survivor said she had been molested by three people, reported HT. Pal too later led the police to his accomplices upon his arrest, and the three of them are under police custody.
The survivor reportedly lives with her mother and uncle in a slum near Karol Bagh, in a house which has no door.
